VI. The Security and Perseverance of the Saints
1. God Preserves His People
- Salvation is God's work from start to finish (Philippians 1:6; Jude 1:24).
- No one can pluck believers out of Christ’s hand (John 10:28-29).
2. True Believers Persevere
- God causes His people to continue in faith and holiness (1 Peter 1:5).
- Those who fall away permanently were never truly saved (1 John 2:19; Matthew 7:21-23).
3. The Role of Discipline and Warning
- God disciplines His children to keep them in the way (Hebrews 12:6-11).
- Biblical warnings stir perseverance—not fear of loss, but fear of presumption.
4. Assurance
- Based on God’s promises, not man’s performance (Romans 8:38-39).
- Evidenced by a growing love for Christ, hatred of sin, and fruit of the Spirit.
- Strengthened through Word, prayer, and the fellowship of believers.
VII. Summary Points
- Salvation is a sovereign, gracious work of God from eternity past to eternity future.
- At conversion, God brings the elect to repentance and faith, justifies, regenerates, indwells, seals, and begins to sanctify.
- Eternal life is a present possession and an unbreakable promise.
- True believers will persevere to the end because God keeps them.
